The Rakes – Work Work Work

Ma jucam cu radioul online de pe lastfm, ascultand alternative rock, cand am dat peste baietii astia. In principiu playlistul se umple de prostii, dar din cand in cand mai sunt formatii care ies in evidenta imediat.

The Rakes seamana cu Joy Division-ul de la inceput, desi nu au bass-ul melodic al lui Hook, sau sintetizatoarele lui Sumner, abordarea low-fi a londonezilor m-a facut sa spun “Stop, you had me at the chorus!”.

Traind si compunand in Londra, multa din muzica celor de la The Rakes vorbeste despre munca, clasa de jos, si refulare (dupa ce muncesti). La munca, nu la intins mana! Intr-un fel imi aminteste de Oasis, doar ca nu au riffuri din Beatles, si melodiile nu sunt chiar atat de “catchy”.

Vorbind despre ultimul lor album (Ten New Messages), Alan Donohoe, solistul trupei, a spus ca “(it is) inspired by a combination of choral music, the television show 24, Bond theme tunes, World War 1 poets and the Sugababes.”
Genial.

Pe la -02:40 e o faza grozava, cand bassistul trupei (imaginea cea mai din dreapta) o agata pe prietena solistului intr-un bar, pentru ca avea chitara cu el. Daca as avea un leu pentru fiecare data cand mi s-a intamplat asta mie… as fi falit. Goddamit!

    daca tot imi place mie blog-ul vostru, imi permit sa spun : mi se pare ca s-ar intergra bine in “peisajul” audio ultmiul Manic Street Preachers- “Your love alone is not enough”! (same ol’ British).
